Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to fourth grade! I am very excited about teaching your child and watching them grow into responsible and respectful lifelong learners. I am eager to help them make a smooth transition into fourth grade and prepare them for their continued journey of learning. I look forward to getting to know your child during the first week of school. I have planned numerous exciting and challenging learning experiences for this school year. In order to have a successful year I believe it is important to introduce myself, along with my expectations, classroom rules, and grading policies.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from The University of Alabama and a Master’s degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University. I am considered highly qualified in Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science. This will be my 23rd year teaching in the Fayette County School System. I have teaching experience in 5th grade, 4th grade and 3rd grade. My husband also works in the Fayette County School System. He is the Principal at Whitewater High School. We have two wonderful daughters, Ashlyn and Abigayle. Ashlyn is a freshman at The University of Alabama and Abigayle is a freshman at Whitewater High School.
Homework will be assigned most days except Friday. Failure to complete homework will result in your child getting behind and could potentially impact his/her grades. All important information and papers should always be kept in the Homework Folder. Please look at the contents in this folder each night. To promote responsibility, each student will be required to record his/her homework assignments in their agenda each day. All homework assignments will be posted daily for the students to copy. Please check and sign the agenda each weeknight. This will help you and your child stay on top of assignments and upcoming activities.
Grades are weighted and available for you to view anytime through Infinite Campus in 4th grade. Classwork and quizzes will each be 25% of the grade, Unit/Chapter Tests will be 50%, and Homework will be 5% of the grade. Weekly tests will be given in Reading (comprehension and/or vocabulary), Daily Math, and Daily Language. Students will be notified a week in advance prior to unit and chapter tests.
Mrs. Mills and I plan to use weekly Choice Cards to keep you informed about your child’s behavior, both positive and negative. The Choice Card will be placed in your child’s Homework Folder and should stay there all week for you to view. On Friday, your child will be assigned a conduct grade for the week. Please sign the Choice Card and return it to school on Monday.
I am looking forward to having a great year with you and your child. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Please know I have your child’s best interest at heart. Thank you for sharing your child with me.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cole
